Late Rutherford blitz knocks out NZ: 2024 T20 World Cup (Tarouba)

Sherfane Rutherford’s fireworks in the last 2 overs was the difference as The Black Caps were beaten by 13 runs by the West Indies in their T20 World Cup clash.

With the last man Motie at the wicket, Rutherford plundered 37 runs in the last two overs of the innings to boost the Windies to 149-9. Rutherford’s unbeaten 68 off 39 balls (two fours, six sixes) lifted the home side from the depths after they were put in by Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson.

In reply, paceman Alzarri Joseph (4/20), the spin duo of Gudakesh Motie (3/25) and Akeal Hossein (1/21) combined to stifle the Black Caps, as only Glenn Phillips (40 off 33), Finn Allen (26 off 23) and Mitchell Santner (21 not out off 12) showed any fight.

West Indies 149 for 9 (Rutherford 68*, Boult 3-16, Southee 2-21) beat New Zealand (Phillips 40, Joseph 4-19, Motie 3-25) by 13 runs.
