1966: Sobers introduces Windies team to Queen (Lords)

Garry Sobers led the West Indies team to a 3-0 series win over England captained by Colin Cowdrey.

The Queen and Duke meet the players and walk back into pavillion.

The West Indies crushed England by an innings and 40 runs at Old Trafford, drew the second Test at Lord’s, then secured a decisive 139-run victory at Trent Bridge before sealing the series with an innings-and-55-run triumph at Headingley. England avoided a heavier defeat by winning the final Test at The Oval by an innings and 34 runs.

Sobers was the outstanding performer, scoring 722 runs and taking 20 wickets across the series. Key contributions also came from Basil Butcher, whose magnificent 209 at Trent Bridge helped set up the third-Test victory, and Lance Gibbs, whose spin bowling repeatedly troubled England.

The series confirmed West Indies as one of the strongest teams in world cricket and marked one of their greatest overseas achievements of the 1960s.
