England captain Andrew Strauss hit his 17th Test century as the tourists dominated the opening day of the last test that they have to win if they are to square the series.
Strauss 139 not out and Owais Shah 29 retired put on 107 before Kevin Pietersen 10 was bowled by Ryan Hinds. England finished on 258-2.
