How was that out? Brad Haddin cheats

At a crucial point in the match Australia keeper Brad Haddin illegally dislodges the bails and falsely claims a catch against Kiwi batsman Broom.

This left NZ 106-5 as the subsequent replays shows what Haddin had done the Michael Clarke delivery was going over the stumps as Haddin's gloves breaks the stumps. The Kiwis won by 2 wickets in a last ball thrilller.

1st ODI Perth Feb 2009.

Peter, u r wrong. The law is, u can't hav the gloves infront of the stumps. Even the commentators say that and I'm sure they know the law better than u as they were playing 1st class cricket for years. If u think he's been accused bcoz he's Aussie, too bad. Nobody asked him to put his hands infront the stumps and claim it and then get the blame for cheating. That was his call to do so and I've never seen anything like that before. Ur point is dead wrong coz that bowl is definitely a NO BALL. Poor decision by the leg umpire and poor sportsmanship by Haddin.

If you watch the larger video, at about 1:39 you can see the tips of Haddin's gloves obscure the corner of the wickets, ie get between the ball and the corner of the wickets and bail. Infact for a split second you can see some of the glove both between the ball and wicket while some of the glove is visible bellow the ball which would cause the ball to hit the gloves pushing them onto the wicket and if the fingertips are capped he may not have felt this. Though he clearly has doubts as he moves away but doesn't say anything.

I don't think he intended to cheat, though afterwards when he clearly realised that he did something wrong and didn't speak up and that is essentially cheating.

You often see players shaking their shoulder saying "I don't know" when asked if they caught the ball or if the batsman is otherwise out and they ask the umpire to refer it because they aren't certain which is the honest thing to do. Haddin didn't despite being uncertain so he was at the least being deceptive and unsporting.

Peter... You realise the 'Pitch' you claim of law 40.6 that only the keeper can be on is the PITCH and has nothing to do with Wickets or Wicket Keepers. This rule is to stop Outfielders fielding on the pitch. of course a Wicket Keeper would be permitted to stand on the pitch...

I really fail to understand how your eyes manage to convince your brain that the Ball hits the bails, its not even that close. Take a good hard look at your Cricket team Australia... First the massively controversial series against India in Aus then against India IN India and now this.

Yes, the clip at 1:16 leaves no doubt at all. Haddin should have called it to the umpire...he looks very doubtful in the slow mo after his appeal...but the state of the game caused Haddin to cheat....pathetic!

the footage at about 1m16s into the video is irrefutable - the ball did not bowl broom, no doubt about it. it clearly missed. talk about gloves being in front of the stumps is virtually irrelevant in a sense; the reality is that haddin's gloves collected the bails, and worse than that, he knew it. of course he and ponting are reacting strongly to vettori's comments - haddin has been caught in the act. not so bad as '81 of course - haddin would not have meant to dislodge the bails with his gloves, but given a moment at most to reflect, he would (or should) certainly have known what had happened. and should have blown the whistle on hinmself accordingly. (he'd be spitting if mccullum had done it to him while he was batting).

You can clearly see the ball jump up into Haddins gloves after it strikes the bails. If Haddin was anything other than an Australian there would be no controversy.

It rarely happens or never happens dniel, would that be because if you read law 40 it was not against the laws.
