Windies win first ever Wisden Trophy (1963)

The West Indian team under Frank Worrall tasted its first ever win in the Wisden Trophy by defeating England 3-1 in the 1963 series.

The key to the Windies dominance of the English was its bowling attack. The fast-bowling pair of Wes Hall and Charlie Griffith had pace and swing. They also had Lance Gibbs, Garry Sobers and Worrell himself in the spin department.

At the end of the series, Frank Worrell was the first captain to receive the newly minted Wisden Trophy and he flew home with his team to a tumultuous welcome in Kingston, Jamaica.
